And it Came

Just like the weather service forecast said it would. This was late in the afternoon though. I woke up to much more on the ground but as the sun peaked out it melted it away pretty fast. By evening it had stopped. Today should be sunny, I hope. Whatever your Sunday is forecast is, enjoy it.

Old Burro Mural

This mural is one the side of the Lensic Theater and can be seen as your walking along Burro Ally. It's a depiction of how the entrance to Burro Ally was in the old days.

Speeding By

I don't know about you but this week went by pretty fast. As I was out for my lunch time walk I saw this young man skating around the plaza. The weather has been pretty great these last few days but I understand it's supposed to cool down again tomorrow with a chance of rain or snow. We'll see. Have a great Friday everyone!

The La Fonda Hotel is getting a much needed exterior face lift before the tourist season arrives. As I was walking by the other day I heard yelling out to a co-worker on the ground "On my Way." As I looked up there he was.

Standing on the Corner III

A few afternoons past I was standing on the corner of Old Santa Fe Trail and San Francisco Street. On the other corner is Packards, they have some wonderful things like Native American rugs, jewelry and housewares. To the east is the La Fonda Hotel and down the street, St Francis Basilica.

Hairy Situation

Yesterday I was out grocery shopping and as I was cruising through the produce aisle I spot this, a hair piece. I looked around to see if there was someone who looked as if they lost a patch of hair but no luck. All I could think of as I finished my shopping is that person who is probably at home trying to pick it out and wondering "why won't this damn thing come out." Needless to say I didn't buy any nuts.

Standing on the Corner

I was out and about on my walk yesterday and I thought it was time for another shot from a corner. This is the corner of Don Gaspar and Waters St. Happy Saturday everyone.

Theme Day: Cafe Chairs

The time has come for another CDP Theme Day and this month's theme is Cafe Chairs. These brightly colored chairs and tables were not at a cafe but at a small seasonal store near the Farmer's Market. To see more Cafe Chairs from around the world click here.

Inn and Spa at Loretto

I've shown you the Inn and Spa at Loretto before but as I was walking by the other day I could not resist taking this shot. The sky was just so blue and there was still a patch of snow on the ground. For some really nice photos click on the link.

Snow on Banco

This snow covered banco is on the right side of the Palace of the Governors. I was shooting the snow and the shadow was an added surprise after I downloaded the shot.

Little Snow Drifts

Last evening the wind was blowing extremely hard. When I woke up in the morning there were these little snow drifts everywhere. The light happened to be perfect around this time so I snapped this right before work. Needless the say the ice on the roads was really bad. They actually had to close the freeway from Albuquerque all the way to the Texas border.

Not for long though. As you can see this is an exit for a parking lot and I could not stand there for long. Yesterday I had posted about looking up or you might miss something. You would not believe how many times I've walked past this spot until the other day when I really saw it. Have a wonderful Sunday.

This was at a local shop close to my work. How often do you see (no pun intended) a bunch of heads watching the road. Happy weekend everyone.

Drinking the Sunshine

 

 Not all of Canyon Road is galleries and restaurants. As you walk to the far east side you will come across a few homes lining the street. As I walked by one of these homes I caught sight of these two plants sitting out in the sun. Nothing like the warmth of the sun.

Nap Time

It's not the name of the cute sculpture but that's what I call it. These bears can be found sleeping at a gallery on Canyon Road.

Kachina Graffiti

While on my way to the Farmer's Market I caught site of this Kachina and graffiti on a wall. I think it was meant to be part of a mural but some tagger got to it first. Well at least they will be able to paint over it if they plan on completing it.

Moon on Monday

 

 I found this sculpture at a gallery on Canyon road and I was talking my lunchtime walk. I think this would be a wonderful addition to anyone's yard. I hope you all have a great start to your week.

I found this back lot along Water Street. I would have loved to explored a little more but you can't get past the Coyote fence. Today is day one of a three day weekend so I am one happy guy. Enjoy your Saturday.

Happy Trails

It's the end of another long week thank goodness. This mural is at the entrance of "Double Take," one of my favorite stores in town. If your shopping for some used cowboy boots,Native American jewelry, and even some Southwest furnishings this is the place to go. I hope you all have a happy Friday.

Happy Valentine's Day

Sometimes to win a little love you have to do something sneaky. Same goes with photo's in certain shops here in town that have signs that say "No photography allowed." Wishing you all a wonderful day full of love, maybe some good food and alot of chocolate!

As for me I am heading off to the Lensic again for their Valentine's Day movie. This evening they will be showing Moonstruck. So if I don't stop by tonight you'll know why.

Verve Gallery

The Verve Gallery is one of my favorite photographic galleries in town. They always have some great openings. Speaking of photographs last nights lecture with Annie Lebowitz was fantastic. She really is funny. I can't wait for the opening of the show this Friday.
By the way did something change on Blogger. Everything loaded really different tonight.

Excited About Tonight

This is just a portion of the details at the top of the Lensic theater here in Santa Fe. Here is a small snippet from Wikipedia "The Lensic Theater is an 821 seat theater designed by Boller Brothers of Kansas City, well known movie theater and vaudeville house architects who designed almost one hundred theaters throughout the West and mid-West, including the KiMo Theater in Albuquerque. The pseudo-Moorish, Spanish Renaissance Lensic was built by Nathan Salmon and E. John Greer and opened on 24 June 1931. Its name derives from the initials of Greer's six grandchildren. The Lensic was completely restored and renovated between 1999 and 2001, and provides Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico with a modern venue for the performing arts

The best part, tonight I am attending a lecture featuring photographer Annie Leibovitz who is here in Santa Fe for the opening of her show at the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum.

Just a little bit.

Not far from the shot I posted yesterday I found this old window with another small gathering of snow. I guess the rest that we have been waiting for has passed us by except for our mountains. I hope your week starts off with something positive.

Decorative Snow

Yesterday we got hit with a light snowfall with some really high winds. It made for some really interesting gatherings like on this grate and old frame. We have more snow in the forecast for Sunday and Monday. We'll see what happens overnight. Have a happy Sunday.

Shadow

Sorry everyone but I got home last night to find I had no internet connection. Needless to say I could not visit your sites and I could not get to my files. So today I am giving you one that I had stored on my iPhone. I shot this in front of the Peyton Wright Gallery as I was out walking about. I liked the way the shadow was falling on this sculpture.

Corner of Don Gaspar and San Francisco

Standing on the corner of Don Gaspar and San Francisco street you will find yourself looking down the portal along San Francisco street. There you will find galleries, local shops and a Starbucks if your needing a little pick me up after shopping and gallery hopping.

Warming up

The weather in the morning is still a little chilly and you need a coat when your out. But when noon comes around it's in the 40's and perfect for an afternoon walk. As you can see there is still a little snow up on the ski basin and maybe by Saturday there could be more according to the weatherman.

Day Trip 10

This window was part of another empty store front along Bridge street in Las Vegas. I guess I was meant to be here in front of this window since it was displaying my last name. This concludes our excursion to this great little town only an hour east of Santa Fe.

While walking around the plaza in Las Vegas I noticed this woman sitting in the window of the Plaza Hotel. I was curious what she might have been doing so I walked over to find that she was taking in the sights and reading at the same time. I also happened to catch a nice reflection of the trees too. This is one of the vacant buildings in the plaza area of Las Vegas. Not sure what this was in the old days but it is still such a beautiful building. Look at the details at the top.

Theme Day: Umbrellas

It's Theme Day here on City Daily Photo and this months theme is Umbrellas. This is not an easy thing to find here in the winter. Lucky for me I had an umbrella shot in my archives. These are next to Station, a local coffee shop in the Railyard area.

Day Trip VI

This is the entrance of Thread Bear Quilt shop. This little shop sits on the plaza in Las Vegas. If your into quilting and fabrics this would be the place for you. The interior had beautiful exposed brick and the old checkered floor.

Of course this was the only red building on the street. This old fire house was really something to see. You will probably notice the reflection in the window too.

This is a partial shot of Bridge street in Las Vegas. I love all old buildings here. I could have taken a million shots.

Day Trip

I was digging through my archive and found that I completely forgot about a day trip that I look to Las Vegas, which is only an hour east of Santa Fe. They have some wonderful historic buildings there. I usually go there to visit a great little bookstore they have there. I'll be sharing a few shots from this day trip in the next several day. White Reflection

I caught this one the other day while walking during my lunch hour. This tourist was taking a shot and I happened to catch a small part of her in the reflection I was going for. Wishing you all a very Happy Friday.

Hot Seat

Not with that snow around. We have very little snow left around town. Most of it can be found in shady spots like this. Nothing like a little red to catch your eye.

Standing on the Corner

This is you view if your standing on the north west corner of Washington and Marcy. That large building is our downtown library. I have only been in there once. I prefer going to the library at the college.

Sea of Yellow

Last week was the beginning of the Legislative session here in Santa Fe. Different groups will probably be visiting and protesting near the Roundhouse (capitol building). None will probably be a prominent as this Right to Life group. This was just a portion of what I caught on my walk. There was a sea of yellow balloons marching from the Roundhouse to the plaza and back again.

Which Way Do You Go

As for me it was time to come back to Santa Fe. The weekend in Denver was great and as much as I love Santa Fe I realized with this trip that I am a city boy at heart. The sights, and sounds filled me excitement as I walked around downtown Denver. This shot was taken behind the La Fonda Hotel. It's another from the archive but I thought it fitting for my return back to the City Different.

Perfect Day

Another from my archives. I caught this cutie at an artists studio. She makes hanging mirrors out of old windows and her model was showing me how great they work. Hope your having a restful Sunday.
