Theme Day: Fences

It's the first of the month and that means Theme Day! This month's theme is Fences. Here in New Mexico you will see fences on farms, Adobe fence around homes but one of my favorites has to be the Coyote fence like the one behind the sign. They are very popular here and they can be seen all over Santa Fe.

Take some time to visit my friends from all over the world. Just one little click can take you anywhere without leaving your chair.

I like the contrast between the wood and adobe fences.

Coyote fences are such trademarks of New Mexico, esp. Santa Fe, aren't they? I think I'll have to google the term to see its history.

Had to return to share this, esp. like the last sentence!!

"Animal control experts out west suggest that “Most coyotes readily cross over, under, or through conventional livestock fences. A coyote’s response to a fence is influenced by various factors, including the coyote’s experience and motivation for crossing the fence. Total exclusion of all coyotes by fencing, especially from large areas, is highly unlikely since some eventually learn to either dig deeper or climb higher to defeat a fence. Good fences, however, can be important in reducing predation, as well as increasing the effectiveness of other damage control methods (such as snares, traps, or guarding animals).” A wildlife specialist who did his graduate work studying coyotes once told me that “the dumbest coyote is smarter than the smartest dog.”

I like how you got the coyote fence (what a name!) with a adobe wall. Lovely!

I like it too. It's very rustic and seems to have that "style" that I equate with NM. Nice choice for today!

Love that shady view... wonder how often someone parks there anyway... lol!

Excellent choice for theme day. Those fences have a beauty all their own.

I enjoy the rustic fences also. Reminds me of the Ocotillo stalk fences I see in Northern Mexico.

Thanks for the link. Enjoyed seeing fences from all around the world! Even seen a few from some of your loyal followers!

This is the first I have heard of a coyote fence. Yes, we do have coyotes here in Ontario.

we have a few gates in the area here made from this type of coyote fence. the rest of the lifestock area is covered in pipe and mesh with the gate area done this way to try to keep the predators out.

I hope you didn't park there to take this photo! :-)

I knew you would have something very rustic looking! Kate has posted some interesting info on the beast in her comment. Good one, Randy.

This is a real fence, with the nice touch of the sign.

Looks like such an inviting area. Love the style.

I love these coyote fences! We have been having problems here with coyotes lurking about in parts of the city and grabbing small dogs from backyards - maybe we need to have these cool fences.

I like these kinds of fences found in Santa Fe.

This was neat (and I liked Kate's comments). I also liked the fence from the blogger in Poland.
I didn't see an email address for you, so I have to tell you on here that you can get to my etsy store by locating it on my (blog) right sidebar and clicking on it.

I thought about putting up a coyote fence in front of my apartment walkway... but I don't think it'd go over well w/ my neighbors.
:)
