While walking through the plaza yesterday I caught sight of these two firefighters waiting for their fellow teammates. They must have been at lunch because there was nothing going on at the plaza.
As for our two fires they have both burned over 9,000 acres as of last night. The mornings are pretty smoky here in town but by mid-day you can walk around outside until it comes back.

Firefighters do a great job - hard dirty work.
9,000 acres c'est impressionnant, j'espere qu'il n'a pas eut de pertes humaines et que cela va se calmer
I just checked Google to see if Pecos Nat'l Park has been saved and it's still open. Hooray! One of my first stops after I arrive; for me, it is a very spiritual place. I grieve whenever fire takes away some of our land.
the one looks like he's texting....probably telling the other guys "hurry up!"
hope they get those fires out soon...
Mmmmm. A dry west and we're swimming in mud after three weeks of unrelenting rain. The creeks are raging river and the corn and soybean field lie unplanted...:(
How sad so much is being lost by fire!
I bet they were waiting for their team mates to pick up lunch. We have some fast burning fires in the north too but they are far enough away that the smoke hasn't made it down here.
Oh my that's a lot of acreage Randy, the fire fighters, here and everywhere, do the most amazing job! I hope these fires weren't deliberately started?
So sorry about the fires! We have lots of forest fires every summer in central Florida and they do so much damage.
We also have EMTs who take breaks at a local bagel shop. See them there all the time. Until they get a call; then they bail out quickly!
At least they are keeping off the new turf as the sign reads.
i fear fire season. gosh, that's terrible.
A well deserved break. Firefighters are true heroes.
Regarding your comment, I'm afraid you haven't check the right house. €185.000 is the common price for a nice apartment. I think the building I showed yesterday must cost between 1 and 3 millions.
Hopefully you get some rain to help with the fires!
They deserve a nice break. They do such hard and dangerous work and see so many things that we hope never to see.
A well deserved break, I am glad that the worst is over!
I hope those fires calm and kudos to the firemen for all their hard work. Brushfires are so devastating and dangerous.
That's a big acreage. :-( These guys are so important...
Fire scares me, I'm glad they're waiting in the shade.
torturous heat everywhere !
