Bad News

We have a fire on our Sangre De Cristo mountains. When it first started I was on my way home and you could see the tall flames before all of the smoke set in. An hour later I shot this while on my walk on Canyon Road. I came across a man who was just staring into the distance. He told me there had not been a fire like this since the 70's. He was sad and remarked how humbling something like this is. As I continued my walk I was amazed at how this persons sadness had touched me. I hope to wake up to some good news but the winds are blowing and all I can do is hope that something will save our beautiful mountains. Wishing you all a peaceful Sunday.

Looking at Google, it seems the winds are picking up and going to make life more difficult for the firefighters. Fingers crossed, Randy.

I keep my fingers crossed, Randy, that nothing too bad happen! It would be a pitty for the nature.

Oh that is very bad news Randy, fires are so devastating. I do know how you feel, we've been plagued by fires here in Perth this year because of the very hot long summer, and unfortunately most of them were deliberately lit. So hard to believe people can do this.

Can't imagine.
Here's crossing fingers the winds blow the other way.
Or better yet- just cease to blow at all.

Oh gosh! That was terrible!
I hope that the population try to replant the forest.

Those wildfires are destructive and very sad indeed! We have been watching the news from both Arizona and NM with a heavy heart.

Our daughter lives on the other side of the Sangre de Cristos, in Colorado, and she has sent similar photos of the fire. Not good!

We too have fires in our forests some 40 miles from our home. It's a scary thing that many of us in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas are going through right now.

fire is my biggest fear here - even greater than the tornados that come thru sometimes. both seem almost inescapable in their fury, but fire scares me most - i guess because of my animals (and those all around me). i hope they can contain it, but i know those winds have been fierce...

I've been thinking of you, Randy, and hoping those flames will stay far away.

How are things at your end? What was the cause of this fire?

Hope all goes well!

I hate hearing of fires in our forest especially those in New Mexico. My thoughts and prayers are for rain and calm conditions.

not good news Randy, I hope it is contained. I tried looking it up but can't find anything on it. Probably because I am not familiar with that area. I'll check back to see if you gave an update.
And it's not surprising that you felt the man's sadness, you come across as a caring, empathetic type of person.

Oh Randy, that is troubling news. The fires have been especially bad this year.

Oh sorry to hear this. You may know that we're (Arizona) there with you. My husband's parent's house (no longer live there) burned down and all his stomping grounds from his childhood too.

These fires that have been going on what seems forever in Arizona are unimaginable to those of us who are far away from them and their effects. Now to read that here you too in New Mexico may be subjected to this terrible event is indeed very sad. Do keep us posted on how things progress, hopefully in putting the fire out quickly.

So sorry to hear that. I remember a wonderful picnic up there in those trees a few years ago.
Out fires are still burning.

This is terrible, such devastating fires. Would have needed a stronger rain. It may be better. Peter.

So sorry for that! Wish that it would rain for a few days.

The fires have been especially bad this year. Today we're to have high winds again. Sad news indeed.

I have been in those mountains and I know what you are talking about. We spent a summer vacation traveling through Santa Fe and up through Colorado. Beautiful! My nephew is there fighting that fire right now and I worry about him daily. They are such brave young men to put their lives on the line for others. I send white light to you mountains, for the safety of the people who live there and also for my nephew. May the wind switch and blow back into the burn.

Oh dear. We are having a baaaaaaaad fire season in Colorado too. It seems like the mountains have been shrouded in smoke for weeks, and my allergies are driving me crazy. I wish it would rain because the firefighters really have their hands full. I hope your local fire is quickly contained.

Good luck, Randy. The press back East has been reporting on the fires in Arizona, but I didn't know that New Mexico is also having them. I hope they are contained soon.

Randy,
I came on over to see you if you had posted on this. Well, you know I am SO sad. Yesterday morning, I was having a great day... out for a hike, having coffee... the usual day off stuff. Then, in the afternoon... I saw this... I felt like I could cry. I had been hoping & hoping it would not happen here in our mountains, yet I knew the reality was that it could- considering our lack of precip, high winds & low humidity. My heart is just aching...

I hope the fires are under control, Randy. Thank you for taking time to stop by and comment at my blog.

I read that too much time without a fire can even be dangerous for some forested areas. I really hope this can be a'good' one, if they may exist!
