Time for a Game

I caught these shot near downtown. These guys were playing checkers and for their game pieces they were using beer bottle caps. This was inspired by a series that was posted on Portland Daily Photo in August by Lynette.

Games are the best when they're home-made. Great culture shot!

I can see they were very focused in the game. ;-)

The checkerboard looks like a permanent installation. Bottle caps? People are so inventive!! Wonder what they drank first?!

There is always something to see if you look closely enough.

I like it...what a fun thing to do. I would much rather play this game then like, say...a game of Spin the Bottle?
;))
Great street image yet again!

It's great to see people involved in mental activity. I can't play chess, but it's somehow fascinating to observe.

It is not easy to see someone playing checkers now... It was very common once, I barely remember the rules now.

oh that's really neat and at least the playing pieces are easy to get if they are stolen!

It's good see these young people enjoying themselves, but I must admit, they are a little younger than the normal age group I would expect to see.

These fellows remind me of the same activity happening in Washington Square, in Greenwich Village. I had gone to New York expecting to find a big scary crime-filled city and came away loving a place that seemed like a series of small villages. Of, course, the west is always like that!
