Chamisa or Gray rabbitbush blooms late summer and early autumn. While allergy suffers are sneezing all over town others are admiring the bright yellow bloom. "The Chamisa (all species) is the oldest known indigenous yellow dye and has been used for the rich yellow color found in Native American blankets. Spanish-Americans mix guaco (a vine-like climbing plant) with the solution for a yellow paint."

Great title, Randy! I did not know the origin of the dye and enjoyed ready your account. A landscape of yellow like that is quite stunning and brightens up the fall. Nice photo!

Tha's some yellow. No wonder it was used as dye.
Long ago in my hand-spinning days, I spent a lot of time learning about and using natural dyes. Now that I live in New Mexico, this post of yours is reminding me how much fun that was and how much I could be learning about natural dye plants here. Thank you for the inspiration!
Learn something here everyday.
That is quite a display of yellow, but I'm feeling a sneeze coming on!
Beautiful color!
It is pretty! It looks like our forsythia in spring.
It's not a photo, it's an amazing painting, a great chaos of grey and yellow colours.

So these are not autumn leaves! :-) Fantastic!
Nice autumn yellow it is.
Very pretty. I'm sure glad I don't have allergies!
Lovely shot! They seem to form an abstract figure of sorts.
I usually have pretty bad allergies, but thankfully I haven't gotten them recently.
Like this one... pale yellow is strong here.
Achoo is right! My daughter suffers from allergy problems in the fall. I do love the yellow in this photo.
Beautiful photo. I just returned yesterday from a week in Santa Fe . . . sneezed the whole time. But it is always worth it to be in NM.
Pretty!:)
Superb colour. By any chance, do you have a close-up shot of the flowers?
Splendid scene with such terrific colours. Takes one's breath away!
