Zozobra

Or "Old Man Gloom" as they refer to him. This 49ft puppet is burned to rid the people of bad things that may have happened in the past year. It was inspired by a similar ritual of the Yaqui indians of Mexico. The residents of Santa Fe are invited to write they gloomy thoughts and they are burned with old man gloom at dusk. Here are just a few photos of the event. If you would like to know more check out

Great set of pictures, sure there was a lot of fun. Here in Mexico, on Holy Week, in some places burn figures of Diablos, politics, etc. and they known by 'Judas'.

Is this a yearly thing? It sounds like a wonderful and cleansing ritual!
