Kachinas

These beautiful bronze pieces are the work of Gerry Quotskuyva. Most of the Kachina Dolls at the market were carved from wood. My photo does not do these pieces justice. They should really be seen in person. To see more of his Kachina Dolls click here.

I would not have known there were of bronze and would have assumed they were carved of wood. I like Kachina dolls although I can't recall ever owning one. But they are so colorful. These are very well done!

I've never seen Kachinas made of bronze before. Beautiful artistry.

I remember in 4th grade learning about the American Indians, we had to make a kachina doll. I didn't understand them then and still don't. They look alien.

I was so amazed to see Kachina dolls up close in Santa Fe. I listened to a friend (born and bred there) describe them and it really made me fall in love with these pieces. These are beautiful.

I just saw this post and need to clarify. I am Gerry Quotskuyva, the carver of these pieces. THEY ARE NOT BRONZES. I had one bronze on the table, and that led to this confusion. Sorry about that... These pieces were carved out of the Cottonwood Root,as dictated by tradition. My understanding as an Hopi carver is that we are to never sculpt the Katsinam in Bronze.
