Golden Light

I loved golden light that was shining through this woman's umbrella. We were all watching some music performers at Indian Market.

Native Pride

This is Fabian Fontenelle. He is the great great grandson of famed Chief Big Elk and the husband of musical artist Shelly Morningsong. Shawl

Artist of Another Kind

Here was another artist who was also inspired by all the work and performances at Indian Market. She had a beautiful voice and drew quite a crowd.

Inspiration

During Indian Market there were those like me who were inspired to purchase. Then there were others like this young man who were inspired to create.

Not Only Art

At Indian Market, it's not only about the art and the food you can find Native American music and a whole tent dedicated to books about Native Americans. This guy was making sure people knew where to find them.

Before the Buffalo Dance

This is where I was when I heard the drums of the Buffalo Dancers. This dancer was performing for a crowd while another set of drummers beat their drums. So what did I do, I shot and ran. I think it still came out pretty good.

Telling It Like It Is

These women's blouses were a design by a young Native American artist at this year's Indian Market. They sure did get alot of attention.

Buffalo Dancers

There was quite a bit of entertainment on both days of the Indian Market. I was in the middle of shooting another photo when I heard drums in the distance. I missed the first dance but these kind men were more than happy to pose for the group that had gathered to watch them perform.

Kachinas

These beautiful bronze pieces are the work of Gerry Quotskuyva. Most of the Kachina Dolls at the market were carved from wood. My photo does not do these pieces justice. They should really be seen in person. To see more of his Kachina Dolls click here.

The Art of Brent Learned

This was one of my favorite paintings at Indian Market. I liked it for the use of color which to me helps to convey the excitement of the scene. Mr. Learned is of the Cheyenne/Arapaho tribe.

A Thing Of Beauty

There were many wonderful pieces of jewelry at the Indian Market this year both for sale and on some of the shoppers. This was one that caught my eye because of the color of the Turquoise stones. Seed Pot

This wonderful piece of artwork was created by Pauline Romero of the Jemez Pueblo.

Here is a quick definition of the Seed Pot: "Traditionally, seed pots were used to store just what their name suggests—seeds. But these containers were different from other Native American Indian pottery wares. Seed pots were designed to protect the seeds for next year’s planting from rodents and insects. A wide-mouthed vessel like a traditional bowl, jar or olla could not keep vermin out. So, seed pots were created with only a tiny hole that would allow one seed to be dropped in at a time. When the time for spring planting came, the seed pots would be smashed so all the seeds collected during the winter months could be used."

Starting The Day With A Dance

Yesterday while walking to the Indian Market I came across these young Native American dancers dancing a Buffalo Dance in front of a gallery. They were so adorable that it made for a great start to the day. I didn't make it through the entire market yesterday partially due to a very large crowd. Oh well I guess I will have to make another trip today. Good thing I only live 5 minutes to the plaza.

The Man in Red

Yesterday I walked around the plaza watching people prepare for Indian Market and the next wave of tourists that have arrived for the weekends festivities. The day before you see everything even our skies are full of private jets carrying private collectors ready to shop. What I was not prepared for was the man in red standing at the edge of the plaza dressed all in red. I guess he didn't know Turquoise is the color of the weekend.

Bringing Home the Sunshine

This woman was loaded with a great assortment of flowers that she purchased at the Farmer's Market. I was more attracted to her Sunflowers. Speaking of markets, it's Indian Market weekend. Looking forward to see some wonderful artworks. Enjoy your Friday everyone!

Wonder Woman!

Who knew you could find a Superhero at the Farmer's Market. For those of us who love organic food, farmers are our superheros.

Seeing Red

Do you have a favorite vegetable? I do, you guessed it Beets. While shopping at the Farmer's Market for the perfect bunch I caught sight these. I just might have to go back for another colorful bunch.

Of all of my bandstand event photos this season, this is my favorite one so far. The best part, it was totally accidental.

From Taos New Mexico

Meet Max Gomez a singer songwriter from Taos. I have been a fan of his music since first hearing him at the Taos Solar Music Festival more than 4 years ago. We were fortunate to have him come to the Santa Fe Bandstand last week. If you would like to know more about him or hear a song from his new cd take a look at this video.

My Quiet Place

I recently made a run to my quiet place to clear my mind. I took this shot standing at the edge of my property in Abiquiu an hour north of Santa Fe. I have five acres that one day will have a small house on it that will be used as a weekend get-a-way. If you walk about another 15 minute north of my property you would be a standing at the edge of the Abiquiu Lake.

The Fiddler

Today is Farmer's Market day. A few weeks ago I heard this quartet playing at the market and I could not help but take a photo of the violinist. Truth, I am a sucker for violin and cello music. If someone is playing I will stop in my tracks just to take it all in.

Reality through Design

This is a close up of a mural near my house painted on a wall that surrounds a dumpster. I must say it makes for a more appealing view. Happy Friday everyone!

Crafts and Sky

As I entered the plaza for the Girls Inc Arts and Crafts show I was taken back by the clouds that were soon to threaten the afternoon with a thunderstorm. Needless to say it was a quick shopping trip. I'm going to a concert tonight so I won't be able to stop by tonight. See you all tomorrow.

Colorful Artwork

I was walking around as artist were setting up for the Girl's Inc show on Friday. My eye's quickly focused on all of the color in this artist booth. Get a load of the chairs.

Shelter from the Sun

This past weekend was the Girl's Inc Arts and Crafts show on the plaza. I caught these two blocking traffic and hiding from the sun while the show was being set up on Friday.

Cowboys: Real and Imagined

I took this shot as I was leaving Spanish Market. Cowboys, Real and Imagined is the current exhibition at the New Mexico History Museum. These posters were hanging outside of the Palace of the Governors. I just might have to spend a lunch hour there. Have a super week everyone! To read more about this exhibit click here.

Spanish Market: Amanda Griego

Adios Kate

Kate has left home and returned to St. Paul. In her honor Norma did a farewell dance. The day that Kate left I went to see Mariachi Buenaventura at the bandstand. Theme Day: Street Lamps

This month's theme day is Street Lamps. These street lamps surround the perimeter of the plaza as well as inside the plaza. I like this time of year when they are adorned with these large planters filled with colorful flowers.
