Swallowtail Butterfly

Yesterday I was walking by the Basilica and I saw this beautiful Swallowtail butterfly fly by. I watched for it to stop and I was lucky to catch this shot before it flew off.

You were quick! They don't like to stay in one place for very long.

Excellent shot, Randy. These must be out in force now 'cause I've seen several postings that included them. We do have them here, too, but so far they've eluded me! Have a great day!

It looks so pretty there with the flowers. You can tell this is a springtime picture because the butterfly is all bright colors and intact. By late summer they have some rips in those pretty wings and look a bit worse for wear.

Pretty. The light makes it look as if it has one light wing and one dark wing.
