Blue Window.

I love old windows. When I saw this window I was reminded of some lyrics from an Alison Krauss song:

I sat in the window of my room
Watched you go away
It was all I could do

To leave me alone
In all of this sorrow
In this misery...

Red Bench with Bone.

While walking around the apple orchard I came across this red little bench and this bone lying beside it. The bench made me think of the comforts of living in such a wonderful place and the bone brought about thoughts of Georgia O'Keefe.

Retired

Just a little further up the path from yesterdays photo was this old tractor shed with a retired tractor in it. Unfortunately another Monday has come and it's time for work. It will be awhile before I am like that tractor. Have a good start to your week everyone!

Time to Rest.

One place that I just love to visit is the studio of Gayle Fulwyler Smith, a watercolor artist in Dixon. Her home is surrounded by a large apple orchard and you have to walk on a road in the orchard to reach her home. This old trailer that was probably used at harvest time. Wish I could have caught a shot of it when it was full of apples.

La Chiripada

The Dixon area has a few wineries, La Chiripada happens to be one of my favorites and I make it a point to visit every year. This year I came home with a new white wine, Embudo Blanco. It is an apple wine that is tart with a hint of sweetness made from locally grown apples.

Watching Over Me.

Well actually this carved angel was watching over the dog from yesterdays post. The wood and metal sculpture was created by Eric Evenson a sculptor showing on the Dixon Studio tour. Happy Weekend everyone!

A Time to Relax

This cute little fellow was resting in between visitors to his owners art studio. I think he was trying to blend into the Fall colors but I caught sight of him and snapped this photo. I think everyone needs a day like this from time to time.

Studio Signage

Some people are just so creative with their studio signs. Jim Vogel is one of my favorite artist whose paintings are very reflective of life here in New Mexico. You can see some of his work here .

The Greeter

Not only was Buddha out the other day but so was this woman carved from wood. She was out greeting people as they stopped by the Desert Rose gallery. The artist is such a friendly gentleman who always remembers us every time we stop by. I love his little studio made out of adobe.

Made you Smile!

It's Monday and what better way to start the week than with a bright flower and a smile. It's short week for me and that thought already had me smiling. These are the work of Mark Saxe from Southwest Stoneworks. One of my favorite stops on the studio tour.

Buddha in Dixon

This weekend is the Dixon Studio Tour. It is one of my favorites, mostly for the Fall colors and the people. There is a certain peace about them and speaking of peaceful I found Buddha sitting on a post taking in the sunshine. He was a great start to my day.

Color of the Day!

My neighbor has this wonderful wall climbing vine that produces the best color in the fall. Goes well with the rust, don't you think?

Kicking Back.

It's Friday, time to think about weekend plans and relaxing a little. These two were kicking back at a photographers studio in Galisteo. Hope you make the most out of your weekend.

Blue Corn Anyone?

Blue corn is used for many different recipes, from blue corn pancakes to blue corn tortillas. Here we have it whole before it's grounded up into corn meal. One of my favorite dishes with blue corn tortillas is blue corn chicken enchiladas with green chili. Darn now I'm hungry. Click on the photo for a better look.

Back to the 80's.

Time to Flashdance everyone and it wasn't even Halloween. Something you don't see everyday unless you travel back to the 80's.

Squash and Chili.

This pumpkin or what ever kind of squash it is was the biggest I had ever seen in person. I wanted to stick around to see if anyone bought it the whole time thinking of a nice soup with chili mixed in.

Theme Day: Public Transportation

Welcome to another Theme Day here on CDP, this month's theme is Public Transportation. Here at the Santa Fe train depot we have an old 1950's Santa Fe Southern Railway "Dome Car." In the older days of train travel this would have been considered traveling first class. Travelers could enjoy the view sitting in the "dome" while other dined below. Every now and then I see this car go by my work usually full of tourist on a short trip to the historic Lamy station.

Spared.

Happy Halloween everyone. I am sure these two are happy the didn't end up with a goofy face. But they will probably be used for something else, like a pie. Enjoy your day!

La Cantora

One weekend at the Farmers market I saw this couple performing. Her voice reminded me very much of my grandmothers. The accordion player has been there since but she hasn't. I am hoping to see them together one more time before the season is over. Happy Saturday!

Gallerie Corazon

One of my favorite places to visit in the Fall is Gallerie Corazon. I love the way the decorate the entrance with the chilies and flowers. The birds a a permanent part of the entryway. Hope your weekend is just as colorful.

Where's the Driver?

A few weekends ago I saw this guy sitting and waiting, for what I had no idea. Until I realized he was the driver. I think the couple walking by wondered the same thing. He might have missed a customer sitting in the passenger seat or did the purple hair scare them away?

Blue Fence, Red Door.

I love this courtyard entrance, the house is cute too. The other day the light was perfect so I stopped by on my way home from work for a quick shot.

Lighting of the Leaves.

I came across some grape vines outside of bed and breakfast a few weeks ago. The sun was setting and I caught the sunlight shining through one of the leaves.

It's Monday, Oh C*@%

Not feeling the motivation for a Monday? I know I'm not. These might make you smile or maybe laugh a little. I found these at a store downtown called Design Warehouse.

Out of Tune?

Mozart's Garage is not a place to have your piano tuned. It is actually a Mercedes Benz and BMW repair shop. Some times when your driving by you can see a Mini Cooper sitting outside waiting for repairs.

Art On The Go!

Axle Contemporary is a mobile gallery that travels to different sites in the city. The exhibit at the time I shot this was a nice collection of ink drawings. Maybe they will have a new exhibit today.

Pick Me!

Some will be pies and maybe some will become bread. I believe some have a scary future set out for them as Halloween pumpkins. Maybe one will turn out to be the Great Pumpkin! Have a wonderful weekend everyone and thank you for your visit.

Contrast

Yesterday's colors were so vivid I thought I would tone it down a bit for little rust and old paint. This little beauty belongs to an artist in Abiquiu. Good thing this wasn't for sale or it would be parked in Santa Fe today.

Fall Hiking

One of my favorite Fall hikes is up on the Sangre De Cristo mountains. There you will get some amazing photos of the Aspens in all their Fall glory. The smell of the air is amazing and the sky is the most beautiful shade of blue.

Line Along the Rio Chama.

This is the view of some trees that line the Chama river. I was visiting a bed and breakfast that was hosting some of the artist on the studio tour.

House Hunting.

I wonder what kind of bird will occupy this little bird house when it will be hung in a tree. This was outside of an artists studio. They must have gotten it from another artist in town who make these. This arts works in glass. It is also how I spent part of my Sunday, house hunting.

Fall on the Rio Chama.

This is the Rio Chama which has been made famous in paintings by Georgia O'Keefe. It runs through Abiquiu and feeds into the Rio Grande. The Fall colors were just starting last weekend and I am sure they are even more intense now.

St. Francis

One of my favorite artist on the Abiquiu Studio tour is Leopoldo Garcia. He creates some amazing cravings out of wood found near the mountains of Abiquiu. I currently own two of his carvings, a Virgin de Guadalupe and a St. Francis. Not quite as large as this one which is probably a little over 6 feet tall. I also have the most beautiful walking stick that he made out of the same type of wood. His home/studio is in the same village that Georgia O'Keefe lived in. He was a little boy when she lived there. He once shared a great story with me about the "The Lady" who paid for him to go to boarding school.

Time to Relax.

These antique chairs were sitting outside of another gallery on the tour. I love this style and the colors were perfect. Unfortunately they were not for sale or they would be residing in Santa Fe today. Wishing you all a happy weekend!

Fall Colors In Abiquiu.

Fall is alive all over Northern New Mexico. I love that most of the studio tours happen in my favorite season.

Blind Me With Color!

Wondering around the Zen Garden I came across these wonderful flowers. The color all over this home and garden were just amazing.

Zen Garden

To the left of the entrance from yesterdays post I found this Zen Garden. This home was such a feast for anyones eyes. They sure put a lot of love into this home and gardens.

Colorful Entrance.

This is the entrance to the home and studio of the artists who own the potter's shed from yesterdays post. I love the color of the home and the gates and I think the pumpkins add that special Fall touch.

Artist Potters Shed

This weekend is the Abiquiu Studio Tour. One of the studios we visited had this amazing little Potter's shed next to there studio. I love all the color. It would be a great place to hang out on a Sunday.

Pack Up The Pups!

It's time for the Farmers Market! This young woman on stilts and her dog were at the entrance of last weekends Farmers Market. She was promoting a performance that was going on later that day. Let's see what is on the agenda for today. Happy Day!

11,000 Feet!

This is the view at 11,000ft from the top of the ski basin. Not only was my breath taken away from that uphill climb but the by this view. Click on the photo for a better view. Have a great weekend everyone!

A Long Climb.

During the fall the Santa Fe Ski Basin offers free ride to the top of the slopes so that people can view the changing of the Aspens. I decided to take the long walk up and boy am I paying for it. It is a great view from the top and well worth the work out.

Lifeline.

While out on a hike over the weekend I came across this spotted leaf that caught my eye. While trying to focus on it I was surprised by the bright red stem. Interesting looking lifeline.

Aaachoo!

Chamisa or Gray rabbitbush blooms late summer and early autumn. While allergy suffers are sneezing all over town others are admiring the bright yellow bloom. "The Chamisa (all species) is the oldest known indigenous yellow dye and has been used for the rich yellow color found in Native American blankets. Spanish-Americans mix guaco (a vine-like climbing plant) with the solution for a yellow paint."

Signs of Fall

The Aspens here have started to change. Pumpkins are in the market and there is a chill in the evening air. What is your favorite part of the Fall season?

Alone With Flowers.

While walking past a garden I came across this little figure holding flowers and sitting in this old wood chair. I thought she was a perfect garden piece. How could you not smile seeing her in your garden.

Animals Of Power.

I think this mosaic image of a lion or tiger is fitting artwork for the wall of an electrical substation.

Theme Day: Graffiti

It's Theme Day here on CDP and this months theme is Graffiti. I found this version of the Virgin of Guadalupe on a fence on the outskirts of Taos.
