Hold that Pose

This statue of a painter sits in a small park near the downtown area. He will not be the only artist in town. Today is the Santa Fe Indian Market. The biggest annual event for Santa Fe. Keep an eye out for photo from the market.

Gray Skies

While out shooting some photos a storm started to form over the city. By the time it hit we were hit with quite a bit of hail.

Golden Hearts

While walking by I was blinded by the hearts on the umbrella shining from the sun.

This small sculpture of Jesus on the cross sits in front of the statue of Guadalupe.

Our Lady of Guadalupe

This new statue of "Our Lady of Guadalupe" is new to the Guadalupe church. She was made in Mexico and after a long trip and problems at the border she arrived and was dedicated last Friday.

Shot this while walk through my neighborhood. There are so many flower in bloom right now, its great.

Hotel St. Francis

I was walking by and noticed the Red flowers in the window and could not resist the shot.

Blue Sky Day

I saw this sunflower on the way to work and stopped to take a guick shot. The sky did not stay like this for long. The wind and clouds dominated the afternoon with high winds. I love the way the flower looked against the blue sky.

Clouds Over Water Street

Lately we have had rain on a daily basis. One thing I love is the big fluffy clouds that float over town. This was taking in the downtown area.

White or Color?

What do you prefer in your veggies? The Swiss Chard was very colorful at this past weekends farmers market.

Cruising in Style

Not all of the police cars here in Santa Fe are corvettes. Not sure why they even bought one. High speed chases I guess.

El Musico de Abiquiu

Not sure if Leo sold this piece. If not it will be headed to a show in Colorado. I think it would go well with my collection of his art.

Mary and the Stargazer

This is one of my favorite artist. Leopoldo Garica lives in the village of Abiquiu. He carves his work out of natural wood found in the area and uses natural dyes. Check out more about him at the following website.

These two were so excited that it looked more like they were taking this guy for a walk.

Matthew Rhodes

One the way to the Spanish Market there were some artist painting near a downtown gallery. I was drawn to the painting by this artist. If you want to see more you can look at his website at www.matthewrhodesfineart.com

Paper Sculptures

This was one artist with some striking sculptures. They would look great hanging in by a door. It would make quite the conversation piece.

Jesus

I should have shot the whole cross so you could have seen how large it is. But the close up is so much better. This would look great over a fireplace.

St Francis

This St Francis would have looked great on my patio. Unfortunately my pocket book could not stretch that far. Maybe next time.

Good and Evil

Surely not the name of this piece of art. This is by the same artist who carved the Angels from Wednesday's post.

La Conquistadora

This is a wooden version of the statue of La Conquistadora The actual statue is housed in the St.Francis Basilica in downtown Santa Fe. This piece won the artist a ribbon during the Spanish Market.

Everyone needs an Angel

These were some of my favorite angels that I saw on Saturday at the market. I should have bought one then. I went back on Sunday and the majority of them were gone.

Retablos

My words would not do these justice. Here is a small definition of what a Retablo is:
Retablos, referred to as "laminas" in Mexico, are small oil paintings on tin, zinc, wood or copper which venerate a multiplicity of Catholic saints. The literal translation for "retablo" is "behind the altar." This genre of folk art, deeply rooted in Spanish history, represents the heart and soul of traditional religious beliefs in 17th, 18th, and 19th century Mexican culture.
These were everywhere at the Spanish Market, my favorite were the ones made by the children.

Spanish Market Weekend

Click on the photo for a better look and you will see the white tents going all the way down the street. This weekend was the Spanish Colonial Market. The plaza was full of people both local and tourist who come to Santa Fe just for this market. This week I will be highlighting some of the art work from the market and a few other photos.

I love this Day of the Dead piece. So much color even in death.

Lost in the Music

Los Pingous

Los Pinqous provided some great entertainment at the Folk Art festival. They come from Argentina but live in California.

This market was last weekend. There were vendors from all over the world. Not to mention there were shopper from all over the country too. There was alot of good food and music too.

The downtown plaza was full with the City of Santa Fe Fire Departments Fun Festival.

Goat Lotion Bars

This are great. They really help with dry skin. There are all kinds of Goat products at our farmers market.

This butterfly kite was for sale at the Farmers Market store.

Taos Tomatos

In light of the Tomato scare here in the US we always know that we can count on the Taos Tomato guy for some great tasting tomatos.

As always the Farmers Market had alot to offer yesterday.
