This new statue of "Our Lady of Guadalupe" is new to the Guadalupe church. She was made in Mexico and after a long trip and problems at the border she arrived and was dedicated last Friday.

Blue Sky Day


I saw this sunflower on the way to work and stopped to take a guick shot. The sky did not stay like this for long. The wind and clouds dominated the afternoon with high winds. I love the way the flower looked against the blue sky.

This is one of my favorite artist. Leopoldo Garica lives in the village of Abiquiu. He carves his work out of natural wood found in the area and uses natural dyes. Check out more about him at the following website.

This is a wooden version of the statue of La Conquistadora The actual statue is housed in the St.Francis Basilica in downtown Santa Fe. This piece won the artist a ribbon during the Spanish Market.

Retablos


My words would not do these justice. Here is a small definition of what a Retablo is:
Retablos, referred to as "laminas" in Mexico, are small oil paintings on tin, zinc, wood or copper which venerate a multiplicity of Catholic saints. The literal translation for "retablo" is "behind the altar." This genre of folk art, deeply rooted in Spanish history, represents the heart and soul of traditional religious beliefs in 17th, 18th, and 19th century Mexican culture.
These were everywhere at the Spanish Market, my favorite were the ones made by the children.

Spanish Market Weekend
