While in Abiquiu on the studio tour I came across this artists representation on Sarah Palin. The artist J. Suris works mostly with wood. Here is her artist statement, "Although I primarily work with wood I am fascinated by the alchemy of mixing various materials such as antler, stone, bone and found materials into my work to achieve the calling of each piece. My recent work takes the form of intimate cabinets and magic furniture, figurative spirit beings and sometimes surprising representations of my journey into the "listening place"--a place I find myself in as I hold gathered materials in my hands before I begin working."

I take it that she's for Obama? Wow! The title is a pretty strong statement, isn't it? I enlarged the photo and was struck by the eyeglasses and outstretched arm with the photos, just in case someone didn't "get it." I think she could have clearly made the statement without the title. I am an Obama supporter, but the use of the word "devil" makes me wince. I guess I don't like what's happening during this campaign.
Don't worry Kate. Palin wouldn't "get it" anyway. Did you see her on SNL? She was completely made a fool of and she had no idea. She even stuck it out to the end to wave to the camera during the closing credits.
It shows you how desperate the McCain campaign is that they would allow her to go on SNL without pre-approving the jokes.
Personally, I'm writing in Tim Calhoun for president.
The hair, the glasses, the machine gun, the dead mountain goat...all very symbolic. Great catch finding this little piece of art.
I think J. Suris(Walking Hat)is a wonderful and talented artist. I agree with Sharon, the representation is very symbolic. I like it a lot..it's interesting and fun...and some may see Sarah Palin that way. She's against gay marriage, abortion, and other important issues that affect many people and yet she supports guns and the killing of innocent and harmless animals.
Thanks for sharing this, Randy. The symbolism of artwork is a useful safety valve for the frustrations and dangers posed by populist snobbery. If McCain wins, and then dies, we will have truly gone to hell.
The artist must have great humor to come up with such an idea. Randy, thanks for posting a picture of it. Kudos to the artist.
