As cold as it has been lately am amazed by the icicles that form at night. It has started to warm up lately so these will be hard to come by soon. Click on the photo for a better look.

Hello from Santa Fe

While walking through my neighborhood I spotted this little family living nearby. The days have been warmer so I really doubt that they are still around. I shot this shortly before Christmas. Today is my 500th post and I wanted to say Thank you to everyone who has stopped by to say hello.

Theme Day: Best Photo of 2008

As always on the first day of the month it's time for Theme Day photo. This months theme is the Best Photo of 2008. I don't think I really have a best for the year but I do have my favorites and this photo is my first choice. These Buffalo Dancers from Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo were waiting for their final performance at St. Francis cathedral for the Santa Fe Fiestas.

Follow your Path

Life unfortunately is not on a lit path. But I hope whatever 2008 brought you it was along a path that brought you happiness and joy. This is another shot from the Faralito walk on Canyon Road.

Glowing Warmth

Here is another shot of the Faralitos on Canyon Road. As cold as it was that night with snow all around you couldn't help but feel a sense of warmth with all of the Faralitos glowing brightly.

Christmas Eve on Canyon Road

On Christmas Eve Santa Fe residents gather on Canyon Road to enjoy the lights and farolitos that adorn alot of the art galleries. Some galleries remain open and serve cider and cookies as people walk and sing Christmas carols. I love the lights on the chili ristras in front of Emilie Pooch. This store caters to our four legged family members.

Hope in the Snow

While walking the grounds at the Santa Fe Childrens museum I found hope sitting in the snow.

Losing Yourself

Click on this one for a better look. There is a feeling you get when walking through a labyrinth. You don't have to be lost in anyway but somehow you find something within your self. It was a good evening.

Winters Light

Here is another photo of the Winter Solstice celebration at the Santa Fe Childrens Museum. I was trying to capture the great winter sunset and the labyrinth made from luminarias.

Light of the Season

Luminarias or Faralitos as they are known here in Santa Fe are everywhere during the holiday season. The idea for these came from Spain and are popular in the Latin culture. They are usually made from a paper bag, sand and a candle. These were used for the Winter Solstice celebration at the Santa Fe childrens museum. I will post a few more photos from this event after Christmas, stay tuned.

This is the street that we live on. This was after the last snow. By later on today this will look completely different. We are getting big winter snow tonight.

The Zia is a common symbol here in New Mexico. It's even on the state flag.

Wood and Stone

I love these old wooden benches. They can be found outside of so many homes here in New Mexico.

Old Adobe Wall

There are so many walls and homes built of these types of Adobe bricks. Most adobe consist of mud and straw. Some would think it could not with stand the elements but there are homes dating hundreds of years that were built of these types of adobe bricks. Looks like there was a Teepee behind this wall.
