Spanish Market III

Once again I bring you one of my favorite artist. This is the work of Marie Romero Cash. I find the eyes of her works to be very soulful. That with the colors make me want one for my house. One day.

Spanish Market 1

The first stop for me is always the Children's Market section. Unfortunately the young artist we were there to see could not make it to the market this year. I happened to find another treasure though. Meet Sydney, she is holding the piece that we purchased. It's retablo of San Ysidro, patron saint of farmers. I just might have to go back today to pick up another piece.

Preparing for Spanish Market

Today is our Spanish Market and yesterday the plaza area was full of workers and artist setting up their booths. I spent my lunch hour walking around the area and was surprised at the amount of work that goes into this event. Have a great Saturday.

A Touch of Sunlight.

Lately we have been lucky enough to have a few afternoon storms. Afterwards as with any storm there are always various clusters of clouds all over. Last night the sun decided to paint some of them with a hint of sunlight. This weekend is Spanish Market and the visitors have already started to arrive. Happy Friday everyone. P.S If you haven't had a chance check out Durango Daily Photo. Zac has some great shots of his city.

Bradbury Science Museum

This weekend I went up to Los Alamos for a hike. One the way home I stopped by the Bradbury Science Museum. It was a great place to learn about the history of Los Alamos and the Manhattan Project. To find out more click on this link. My stop was a quick one so I am going to have to go back again when I have more time.

I caught this mobile looking piano the other evening on my way into town. The first thing that came to mind was Neil Diamond's song Play Me.

All Wet.

The other day I was out shopping during my lunch hour when the clouds opened up and let some rain fall on Santa Fe. I caught this on my way back to work and I remembered this quote: "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain." Wishing you all a great week.

A Lucky Few.

This weekend for 3 days only we were lucky enough to see John Lennon's artwork. Santa Fe is one of the last stops for this show in the U.S. This was a benefit for our local charitable organization, The Food Depot. It was great to see people my age who were moved by the artwork. Some of the younger set didn't get it and you could see it on their faces. Enjoy your Sunday everyone.

Colorful Reflection

Now this is one I could not pass up. This is one of the little galleries in Madrid. I just love the way it's painted. I hope your Friday (the 13th) and your weekend are just as colorful.

After the parade I spent sometime in a few of the galleries in Madrid. One that I really enjoyed was the Clayhorse. The artist had some wonderful ceramic pieces for the home or garden.

Bringing up the rear.

How do end a parade? For this it was with marching goats. Good thing no one tried to put an advertisement on their little rear ends.

Riding in Style.

Who wouldn't want to ride in this classic. Rusty but it's still running.

Hopes for Rain?

Actually no, turns out that this was a walking advertisement for a one night show of local talent at the Mine Shaft Tavern in Madrid. Honestly though, I do wish for rain to everyone who needs it. Happy Sunday.

Chainsaw haircuts?

I am not sure if that was the theme for these young ladies walking along the parade route in Madrid. I think I will just go along with what Cyndi Lauper says, "Girls just wanna have fun."

Due Date

Meet the Head Librarian of the Madrid Library. Get a load of the motorcycle that she used in the 4th of July parade. I would not want be overdue with my library books.

Madrid parade.

Yesterday I attended the Madrid 4th of July parade. Madrid is an old mining town about 30 minutes south of Santa Fe. The town is now mostly an artist community. It sits on HWY 14 which is known as the Turquoise Trail and is a favorite highway of motorcycle riders. I will be posting some photos from this charming little community parade over the next week. So I will start with this one, it's the first time I had ever seen a Yak at a parade.

Balls in the Air.

When it comes to a Michael Franti concert there is one thing for sure. There are either balls or people in the air. For everyone celebrating, have a Happy 4th of July. I am off to a parade in Madrid, New Mexico that is.

Taos Solar Music Festival

For me this was a great way to start my vacation. The Taos Solar Music festival is a weekend event full of you guessed it, music. Saturday's headliners included Lyle Lovett and Los Lobos. I was only able to go on Sunday and for me it was the best day. The headliner for that day was Michael Franti. Overall it was a fun day of music, food, sunburns and crowd watching. Until the next festival.

Men in Black.

This is the last of my Santa Fe Gay Pride parade shots. These two were standing in front of me and all I could think was, "how could they we're black in this heat." I am on vacation this week, woohoo! Wishing you all a great Monday.

July Theme Day: Chimneys

I can't believe that July is already here. It's the first and theme day has come again. This months theme is Chimneys. This one was pretty easy. I shot my own when I saw the colors in yesterday's sunset. The City Daily Photo site is down again but I hope that you will visit the other City Daily bloggers. P.S. I am off to a music festival in Taos this morning so if I don't stop by today I will see you again on Monday. Happy Sunday.
