My New Tile Trio

These three are now part of my collection from one of my favorite ceramic artist. I am slowly collecting these to make one large piece. With these I now have eight tiles. Here is a little biography on Kathleen Koltes from the Museum of New Mexico Foundation:

"The ceramic work of Kathleen Koltes is functional yet highly decorative. The processes that she uses on her stoneware clay include silkscreen, stamping, drawing and painting. Her recent works have been inspired by the portraits of Modigliani. A consistent theme in her work is derived from plant forms - the result of years as a professional gardener. Kathleen constantly looks for images to use on her ceramics. Ususally, the quirkier, the better! She has been a ceramic artist for 13 years and has lived in Santa Fe for the past 4 years. She has a BFA in Fiber Arts from St. Cloud University in Minnesota."

  5. I wonder if Kathleen Koltes is originally from MN since she went to Saint Cloud State. She is so talented that I'd like to claim her, too! You are so smart to start a collection of her work. Love your photo of it today!

  7. Wow, very cool. I love to see what people are doing with clay. Interesting that her BFA was in fiber arts- that's the thing w/ creativity... once you start, it can take you in so many different directions!! Hope you had a good, non-frustrating, successful day in the media lab. Some day you'll have to let us all know what exactly you are doing in there!
Have a great start to the week!
